In the lower school, we begin the instruction and formation of our students spiritually, intellectually, and physically. Knowing that our students are created in the image and likeness of God and were created to live in eternal happiness with Him in heaven, our primary purpose is to form them in their sacramental and moral life.
This is accomplished through attending Mass four times a week, classroom and school-wide prayer, and faith formation within each grade level. In order to be contributing members of our society, students are also formed in the skills of reading, handwriting, spelling, and math. This instruction is emphasized in grades K-2. The study and development of these skills continue into grades 3-5, and in addition, the study of grammar, composition, and Latin are introduced.
With an emphasis on good books, literature is used to inform the students about history, geography, and the nature of the human being. Literature, along with the memorization of poetry, provides an excellent opportunity to form the students’ moral imagination. All lower school students will learn about the truth, beauty, and goodness of God’s creation through the study of science, art, and music. The student’s physical body is formed through physical education classes. Ultimately, our teachers strive to provide a joyful learning environment that nourishes all aspects of our students’ formation all for the glory of God.
